Transmit Diversity
Celletra’s Transmit Diversity (TD) technology significantly
reduces the required base station power transmitted to mobiles
in certain locations within a sector. Depending on the application,
TD can significantly increase capacity and/or coverage.
In an urban/suburban capacity-limited sector, due to lower
average transmit power per mobile, TD provides from 15%
to 50% capacity increase. In a rural/suburban coverage-limited
sector, due to a reduction in the required received signal
level at the mobile for a given location, TD provides up
to 30% coverage enhancement.
The amount of overall capacity enhancement provided by TD
depends on the RF channel characteristics, mobile speed and
cluster density of TD cells within a CDMA network (known as
TD reuse factor).

Cost-effective capacity enhancement in mixed indoors-outdoors
population
Cellular phones have become the ubiquitous means of communications,
and the indoor usage has over-grown the outdoors usage in
many urban and suburban areas. This change in paradigm is
not adequately accommodated by the traditional design of the
cellular networks, which is based on outdoors, street level
and coverage. A conflict is analyzed between effective outdoors,
interference limited, design, and design for indoors propagation
regime. Classical attempts to increase building penetration
by power boosting are shown to be of limited effect and reduce
the spectral efficiency. Analysis of the problem is discussed
and a roadmap for cost effective solutions is portrayed.

CDMA Cells Downlink Limitations and Diversity Transmiting
Base Stations are best utilized when providing maximum capacity.
The uplink and the downlink capacity in a CDMA network are
limited by Base Station resources (e.g. channel elements,
transmit power, Walsh codes) and by interference. It is typical
for CDMA cells to be downlink limited, by the available power.
Diversity transmission can provide significant enhancement
to the downlink performance, resulting in lower target Eb/No,
and thus transmitting less power per subscriber, and releasing
the Base Station power for servicing more user and increasing
the capacity.
