The baseline situation described below, as an example, illustrates several coverage holes in the Cellular Network planning. It is possible that more than one hole may occur inside one Sector, while other holes may share two sectors.

The CellEnhancer provides overall improvement of the Cell coverage by adding to the Cell site an effective suite to improve both the reverse (RVS) link and the forward (FWD) link performance utilizing Celletra’s proprietary Add-on Transmit Diversity (TDA) technique. This preserves the link balance in the Cell.

The Cell coverage is enhanced by approximately 6 dB.

How to translate the CellEnhancer improvement into an economic cost-saver?

The ~6dB advantage offered by the CellEnhancer equate for the cell-edge subscriber units into a range extension factor, assuming an R-4 propagation law. This translates into a 2-fold increase in covered area.

Thus, applying the CellEnhancer in a cluster of base-stations results in an enhancement that saves the possible installation of 100% of additional base-stations. Since the Cells tend to shrink with growing traffic, the CellEnhancer enables the prolonged operation of the installed stations, with no need for erecting additional towers, building new sites, and re-planning of the Network.

CellEnhancer versus Denser BTS Coverage Cost Comparison

To demonstrate the savings, which may be achieved by implementing the CellEnhancer, we will use the example of a small cluster of four sites with poor coverage.

There are two ways to improve the overall coverage of the cluster:

• Installing the CellEnhancer in each site
• Increasing the BTS density

As described above, the coverage performance of the CellEnhancer per site is equivalent to the installation of an additional BTS. In the case of a four-site cluster, the equivalent of implementing the CellEnhancer in all four sites is the installation of four additional sites in the cluster.
